How to overcome Procastination.
How to overcome Procrastination.
Mel Robbins, (a famous influencer), often talks about the "5-second rule." The idea is simple: if you're about to procrastinate, count to 5… 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and immediately start your task. It sounds great in theory, right? Just five seconds, and you’re back on track. But there lies a problem what happens after those five seconds?
Research
suggests that the average human attention span has currently dropped to about 8
seconds, which is surprisingly much less than that of a goldfish, which has an attention span of 9 seconds. Yes, that's how bad it is. Most of us can no longer
remain focused for more than 8 seconds without getting distracted.
Now, all of this means that even if we count to 5 and begin, there's still a strong possibility we'll lose focus soon after. The real challenge lies not in starting the task but in staying committed to it, especially with distractions
all around us.
So
The solution is simple, remove distractions. Place your phone away from you,
and put it in a drawer where you can’t see it. Then, get started with as few
distractions as possible. The fewer distractions you have, the more likely you
are to stay focused and complete your work. This means a quiet environment with
distractions removed
By
eliminating distractions, you give yourself the chance to focus fully. Also,
think about the results. Visualize how valuable it will be when you finish your
task. If, for example, you’re trying to finish a book, think about the
knowledge you’ll gain, the ideas you’ll discover, and how much of a better,
more informed person you’ll become. Keeping your eyes on that end reward will
push you through those moments of temptation to procrastinate.
So, put all the distractions away, get your task done, and habitually repeat the same process. Even procrastination is a habit, so why not replace it
with something better? The more you practice this, the more you’ll find
yourself staying focused and productive, creating a positive cycle of success.
Amber, it’s a great blog! Removing distractions and visualizing the rewards makes it practical and motivating, simple steps for lasting productivity.
