A VISIT TO SCIENCE CENTER

A Visit To Science Center

My Mamo (my mother's elder brother) took all of us, including my cousins, to the TDF MagnifiScience Center in Karachi. I had never visited a place like this before, and it's a wonderland of science! The experience was, needless to say, amazing. Remember the Titan, the submersible that imploded during an expedition to view the Titanic wreck on June 18, 2023, in the North Atlantic Ocean off Newfoundland, Canada? The founder of TDF, The Dawood Foundation, Ahmed Dawood's grandson Shahzada Dawood, and his son Suleman were unfortunately part of the group that went in it. The MagnifiScience Center is part of their foundation.

First, we entered the mirror maze, and it felt like we were in infinite space. Wherever we looked, it seemed like the same long tunnel, but as we moved forward, we hit the mirror wall - an illusion created through mirrors. There were no long tunnels, just an illusion.

Our Gang In the Maze

Next, we moved into the tilted room, made at an angle that pushed us back as we walked towards the other side, simulating the force of gravity in a slow rhythmic motion. This room was called the Anti-Gravity Room.

Then, we saw a corner that gave an illusion of our heads on a table - it seemed creepy, so we named it the "Creepy Corner".

There was also a place where, when I stood in one corner and my younger brother stood in the other, it made me look way too small, and my brother Ibrahim looked way too tall compared to me, despite me being 14 and him being only 7. We named it "Tall and Short".

Another cool room had a feature where our shadows on the wall froze - stunning and a bit scary too!

Look Who Is Behind US?

We also saw some random stuff: A Pakistani-crafted truck,

One sad reality is that the ticket price is set at 1400 per head, with membership options available for a better price, but still, this price seems a bit high for a normal middle-class family of 5-6 members. I've emailed the management to consider revising their pricing to around 500 per person.

Our Government should also replicate such models and create a bigger and better Science Centre like this, where kids can enjoy and practically learn about science, at an affordable price. I've also sent the link of this blog to Government officials to consider creating a similar model in different parts of the city.

I'm extremely thankful to my Mamo, who took us all there. I felt obligated to write this blog to thank him. He always takes us to unique places, and we love him for that. If you want to visit a place with real science and optical illusions, do visit this place - it will be a life-changing experience for sure. Watch out for my other blog. Thank you!"
