Fighter Pilot Marium Mukhtiar

1992-2015

What would you do if you had only one choice, To save your life or the lives of others? It is natural to get in the safety zone and save yourself first that's our first instinct as humans but for a well-trained officer, the situation demands a different equation. For Marium Mukhtair the safety of her people comes first that's what she was trained for. In seconds she decided to take the fallen (FT-7PG) plane away from the populace area.

The gravitational force tore the plane into pieces, Just seconds before hitting the ground Marium managed to eject, but these few seconds of delay proved fatal, She could not survive and took her final breaths in hospital, Her soul parted from her body and flown away to eternal life.

Marium was among the first batch of female fighter pilots in the Pakistan Air Force, she was the daughter of former Colonel in the Army Ahmed Mukhtiar, She Insisted to her father that she wanted to join the Airforce as a fighter pilot,

Tamgha E Basalat

Marium's death in the line of duty was honored by PAF, she was awarded Tamagh e Basalat (Medal of Bravery).

Recently I visited the Pakistan Air Force Museum in Karachi known as PAF Faisal Museum, There I saw her Standing tall, her face shining with a beautiful smile as if to say I have done my part I have saved my people. I did what I was trained to do to sacrifice my life for my motherland to do my part in the line of duty.
